Each and every one of us has been gifted with creativity. That may look different depending on who you are. Do you cook new and delicious meals? Do you paint? Write? Sing? Play sports? Dance? These are all gifts that Goddess has blessed you with - regardless of your self-perceived level of talent. In various cultures around the world, life itself is considered an art form. To live is to create. To live is also to destroy. We cannot exist without both.
I came across a content creator recently, @teadayblogs on TikTok. She has a video talking about how we should create more than we consume. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2sYER1K/
This idea resonated deeply with me. She talks about how something happens to humans who consume more than they create - a withering of sorts. I couldn’t agree more. When we are consuming TikToks, YouTube, Shows, Books, Podcasts more than we ourselves are creating, I believe it can leave people feeling disempowered. Our creativity is strength!
You may be saying to yourself “I don’t have a creative bone in my body”, or “But I love binging entire series in the course of a week”. First of all, remember that life itself is creative; you are always in the process of creating something whether you are aware of it or not! Secondly, there’s nothing wrong with watching TV in moderation. You can even be creative while you’re consuming those shows! You can crochet, draw, craft, color, paint, whittle, write, do your makeup, make jewelry, design clothing - all with the show on. The options are only limited by your imagination. You can dance to your favorite music, design a scavenger hunt while listening to a podcast. Friendships are creative by nature. Watch a movie with someone and talk about it. Cultivating relationships through conversation, is also a creative act - you are taking time to create a relationship when you spend time together, even if it is just cracking jokes! You can absolutely create while you consume, but we all need a reminder to prioritize our creativity.
It is okay - more than okay - to not be very good at something. One may only become great at something that they were once bad at. Talents are nothing but practiced skills. Everyone is capable of cultivating these kinds of skills. The joy is in the creation, whether it is “good” or not. Expressing yourself, your emotions, your stories is an essential part of being a happy human.
I feel incredibly blessed to get to be a member of a Wiccan community that values creativity so highly. Writing a ritual is creative. Writing a spell. Doing spellwork even if you didn’t write it. Cultivating relationships with deities. Performing ritual. Working on your book of shadows. Writing chants. There’s a reason it’s called the craft, afterall. If you are looking for a Pagan community to co-create with, you can check out The Ever Green Hearth and the Aquarian Tabernacle Church for events and activities!
The Evergreen Hearth has public Sabbat events. Our public Beltane ritual will be held on Saturday May 10th. Check back here or on our facebook page for more information as it approaches. We also have weekly devotionals 10am Saturdays on Discord. Stop by and get some Goddess and Hearthling love!
I hope that you feel inspired to create today. Share your creations with friends. Make homemade gifts for birthdays and holidays. Bake your neighbor some bread. You - at your core - are a creative being. You are more powerful and capable than you know. Blessed be.
